Hey everyone, I had to bring this memory here because my friends absolutely refuse to believe me. 😂
And honestly, I don’t blame them — it sounds straight-up unbelievable by today’s standards.
So picture this: Before the days of disposable diapers, scented wipes, fancy diaper genies, and all the “must-have” baby gear… our parents were out here doing the parenting hard mode version.
My mom (and probably a whole generation of moms and grandmas) had a diaper routine that honestly feels like something from a survival show. She used to take the dirty cloth diapers — yes, THAT kind — and rinse them in the toilet. Like, right in the bowl. She’d swish them around, wring them out with her bare hands, and then toss them into the diaper pail until wash day rolled around.
I told this to my friends and they practically gagged. Meanwhile, I’m over here like, “Yeah… that was just Tuesday for my mom.” 😅
But the more I think about it, the more I realize how unbelievably resourceful and tough parents were back then. No shortcuts, no disposables, no stain-fighting detergent commercials promising miracles. Just grit, practicality, and doing whatever needed to be done.
Today we complain if the wipes are cold or if the diaper pail smells a little funky. Back then? They were basically doing laundry triage in the bathroom.
And honestly, it makes me weirdly proud — like we come from a long line of warriors. Toilet-bowl warriors, but warriors nonetheless. 💪😂
So now I’m wondering… did anyone else’s mom or grandma do this? Please tell me I’m not the only one with this core memory sitting in my brain rent-free.
