Full-Time Security

Full-Time Security

The FBI is implementing enhanced security measures for its Deputy Director, Dan Bongino, assigning a rotating team of up to 20 agents to provide 24/7 protection.

The move marks the first time a deputy director has received such a comprehensive security detail.

The agency recently requested volunteers from within its ranks to join the protective team under a temporary duty assignment.

This shift means various agents will rotate in and out of the role, allowing Bongino to remain under consistent security coverage—even inside FBI headquarters.

1. Unprecedented Protection Level

This would be the first time a Deputy Director of the FBI has been granted around-the-clock, comprehensive protection, which typically is reserved for the Director or individuals under credible threats.

2. Dan Bongino as Deputy Director

Dan Bongino, known publicly as a former Secret Service agent and conservative commentator, being named Deputy Director would be highly unconventional and newsworthy in itself. As of my latest update, he has not held a position within the FBI. If he has recently been appointed, it would mark a dramatic shift in the agency’s leadership and political optics.

3. Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY) for Protection

The use of rotating agents on TDY is a standard federal tactic to staff temporary missions without pulling from permanent protective details. However, it’s notable that the FBI is calling for volunteers internally, which may indicate urgency or a need for discretion.

4. Potential Implications

  • Security Concerns: Either Bongino is under a specific threat or the FBI is acting preemptively based on intelligence.

  • Institutional Message: The move might signal a larger cultural or operational shift within the Bureau.

  • Public Perception: This will likely raise questions about political influence, transparency, and Bongino’s role within federal law enforcement.
